Oh, I mentioned something about birds in my coffee…

Oh, not this again!

Birds in me coffee

The audacity! The ridiculousness! And it’s migration season so it isn’t that far fetched…

a bird takes a quick break to lather in your coffee before it heads down south for the winter…

“Don’t mind if I do!”

I do love this season, the preparation for winter that every animal makes, especially birds, but also the monarch butterfly makes it’s yearly journey too.  And I’m on a journey, we’re all on a journey of some sort. On this great hunk of rock. Even though some days I feel my journey is spiralling me into a panic attack. aAAAh!

Better lather in your coffee too and watch the birds!!!

Greeted by the Great Heron

On my latest walkin’ wander about I spotted a great heron on the creek! Yes, these are the majestic birds I encountered flying above me one early morning, and we’re probably what I thought were cranes, and thus my crane energy/spirits were foiled. But not really, because these birds are just as majestic and beautiful. I almost missed it! I had circled back and spotted it on my way back! They’re so much larger than I thought because he got annoyed at me and flew up into a tree and then further down the creek. The wing span is massive!

I’m not sure you can see him but he’s hiding in a tree and then I spotted him further down the creek. I left him alone after that because he was busy trying to get him a meal, so I didn’t want to interfere!

And here are some puddles for your puddlin’ entertainment.

Happy walkin’ wandering abouts! I can’t wait to see what you’ll find in your nearest creek beds. Hmmm…?? is that a challenge?

And here’s just a quick doodle of the great heron. For GREAT HERON POWER! Maybe I am becoming the weird HERON birdo after all! It’s time to get back on the weirdo birdo obsession again.

The Answer my Friend is Blowing in the Wind

Windy days, and warming days here in Texas. And my allergies are in panic mode. But even that doesn’t stop me from trying to find something to capture on my wander/walkabouts.

Bluebonnets are the state flower here in Texas and I found some blooming at the university yesterday. Among some other blooms, magnolias, camilias, and the same Japanese maples I took in the fall are starting to bud new leaves!

But my all time favorites are the silhouettes of birds in trees. At least it’s not fungi.

It won’t be long before the silhouettes will be overtaken by bushy leaves in the trees. I do love a leaf less tree for photo taking purposes. And really they are rather cool looking.  Especially when there are birds in them! I really do love these.

What will Spring Bring? Hopefully some new and unknown territories. But I’m afraid the answer my friend is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind…but whatever it is I hope it’s good for everyone! We all need something good these days.

Change Taking Place

After Valentine’s Day and the success of the paper hearts, I’ve not figured out my next grand mush gesture. Perhaps, flowers? Perhaps more weirdo birdos…I’m leaning on ostriches. I just feel like a total awkward ostrich. Ugh. Minus the height. I wanted to embody the beautiful and graceful crane, but I am not there yet. Changes are taking place, even as I write, the buds are starting to emerge. Luckily I have photos to prove the emergence of spring in all it’s colorful glory! As well as more fungi or course. Spring is on its way. Something tells me it’s going to be about the same. I don’t know. It’s hard to be hopeful for anything right now. And if there’s anything we can count on, it’s the seasons that come and go. The rise and fall of the setting sun. The constants in our life. I grasp onto that, and simultaneously grow and emerge along with nature. That’s a beautiful thought at least. Because I know I’ll still stay the same no matter what. Stay in my comfortable bubble. Change take place, within me. Let this weirdo birdo fly!

I just couldn’t resist a puddle, but I had to show you the green in the puddles, if you see!

Fall in Texas, Dead Logs and Hawks!

My Sunday meanderings began like every other Sunday, on a walk in nature of course! And to one of my favorite walking spots here I went. I was anxious to see if any of the colors were starting to change. I noticed some on the very tips of the trees but relatively still green. I probably will go back each weekend to catch another glimpse of some new colors until they are all swept away. Fall usually starts much later here in East Texas. The sun was definitely illuminating some of the rich colors that are about to show. There are so many trees here, so once fall starts here you really need to look! Otherwise you’ll miss some of the beauty of the trees!

I also love to look at old logs on the forest floor. You can still see life on them, which fascinates me for some reason. I have to make a collection of dead logs in my next blog entry because I have quite a few.

This little patch of sun was shining through the forest floor and I thought, what cool little shadows it cast onto this log and the dead leaves!

And lastly on my meanderings, a hawk cut across my path onto this branch! It literally was just a couple of feet away from me as it flew into this tree! I was too afraid to move any closer for fear it would fly away. He was very annoyed at me because every time my shutter clicked he gave me a menacing look. And then he ruffled up his butt and pooped in my general direction, hah! He was very busy hunting something in the grass. Luckily I didn’t mess him up, because he flew away and caught whatever it was he saw (a mouse I supposed). Red tail hawks are so common here, one of the most common birds of prey here that you might miss them if you’re not looking. They are a nuisance to the local bird neighborhood who try and shoo them out of their nesting areas, but very cool to watch and to witness! I caught one hanging out in the rafters at work. Probably looking for mice there too.

Here is a link to the time I saw a hawk at work:

It’s a bit dark so you can’t see his face. I tried lighting the photo up, but still too dark. But oh, what a sighting it was!

Until my next meandering Sunday…

Birdos!

These birds were inspired by a movie I recently watched where the bird has a broken wing, but gets mended by the characters and he’s just part of the theme throughout the movie. Anyway, it’s been a while since I’ve doodled a weirdo birdo so here you go. I like the latter two better even if the face looks slightly weird. It’s cutesy.

The movie is called Showing Up if you happened to be interested. I recommend it to you artsy folk, and anyone who has an artist(s) in their life, or have anyone in your life who is dealing with any mental health issues. And since it’s mental health month, it might be something you’d like to show someone you care about. But that’s what showing up is all about. Maybe you don’t know how to show up for someone, or you’re trying to use your voice to advocate for people to show up, or even to get people to show up for you as insignificant as you might feel.

I think I don’t know how to be vulnerable only through art. And that’s really what I believe art is. It’s seeing through to someone’s vulnerable, raw self. There is more truth in it than they could even speak. In fact I don’t know how anyone could understand me if I didn’t make art. I’d just be sort of a block head.

Heart and Strings

Heart and Strings

I forgot it was February. The supposedly “Mushiest” time of the year, but I guess, who’s more mushy, St. Valentine or Code Mush? You get to decide as the days go forward, closer and closer to Valentine’s Day. Which the latter is obviously more commercial and corny and ritualistically stupid. But we may say it is all those things but secretly we all would like something! From an admirer or a friend or family member. It doesn’t have to be romantic. Love is everywhere you look. It’s in the mundane and in the people we see every day. Okay, I’m starting to think I’m more corny than Valentine’s Day…

I want a rusty tin can shaped like a heart. And I mean, you have to use a hammer and some rusty nails to get it shaped like a heart. And fill it with dirt and worms so that I must feed birds with! And all the weirdo birdos will come to me! Hahahaha…

I’m still obsessing over birdos!! But now more birdos and hearts and mushy things to follow!
